Our Philosophy: With disagreement comes opportunity
Resolution Point was founded in 2007 to provide mediation, resolution consultation, and divorce finance services to clients in Northern Virginia and throughout the local Washington, DC area as well as nationwide and internationally.
Most people see disagreement and confrontation as something to be avoided at all costs. But it can’t always be avoided. And the effort to avoid it more often than not only postpones the conflict, increasing stress and ultimately the cost for resolution. Resolution Point has a more forward-thinking philosophy: With disagreement comes opportunity.
Our Approach: Combine practicality with creativity
Each conflict is unique with its own history, personalities, prejudices, resources, and expectations.
Our approach to each conflict is to:
- Understand the points of conflict.
- Find common ground.
- Identify all assets (financial and otherwise) so that the “pie” to be divided is as large as possible.
- Help the participants identify their needs and interests and find ways to present those needs and interests so that they can be “heard” by the other participant(s).
- Avoid conversations about history (“who’s at fault?”) so that the focus is on moving forward.
- Draft agreements that have a great chance of working, even in an often unpredictable future.
- And recognizing that your ability to pay for mediation is often limited.
We combine the practicality of what we’ve seen work and what hasn’t with creativity, often guiding our clients toward solutions that share successful solutions from past situations while taking into account our clients’ specific situations.
My wife and I, both lawyers, used the services of Resolution Point to negotiate our divorce agreement. The fact that we were even able to reach an agreement at all is a great testament to the mediation abilities of Moné and Danny. What I found most impressive was that they offered solutions and paths forward to address our particular areas of greatest conflict and disagreement…. To top it all off, they were courteous, prompt, and reasonably priced. I would recommend Resolution Point to anyone going through that nightmare called divorce. — C.K.
Our Mediators: Danny Burk and Moné Ardura
Resolution Point has two conflict resolution professionals: Danny Burk and Moné Ardura.

I really appreciate your efficiency and thoroughness through all of this. I’m grateful for how you made what could have been a really rough process quite easy for both of us. You somehow had a way of keeping me calm in our sessions too, which helped me greatly. If I have friends who are in need of a mediator in the area, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you. — K.M.

Mediation is generally much less expensive than most alternatives. Many prospective clients will ask how long the process will take and, perhaps more directly, how much it will cost. Because so much about the timing and cost of a particular mediation is in the hands of the participants, unfortunately, we cannot provide fixed fees. How fast we can finish (and how much it will cost) is more dependent on how willing the participants are to compromise in order to move forward. We pride ourselves on working as quickly as possible for our clients to provide creative alternatives, but we can’t (and won’t ever) force an agreement to happen.
For most mediations, the first step we will take is to have an orientation session and the cost for most orientations is a modest fixed amount. Otherwise, Resolution Point generally bills on an hourly basis, and fees are often shared between the participants. This will make the cost per person very reasonable. In complex cases where more than two parties are involved, rates may vary by the number of participants. We also request reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses.
Our Ethical Responsibilities
Lawyers have an extensive set of ethical rules to follow including several specifically related to acting as a “neutral.” In addition, mediators in Virginia have a separate set of ethical rules governing their behavior. See our Resources page for specific ethical rules.
With all Resolution Point services, you get the protection of the ethical obligations that apply to mediators and those that apply to lawyers.
We look forward to helping you find a peaceful resolution!

WHAT OTHERS SAY
“I wanted to introduce myself as the attorney who has been retained by [one of your mediation clients] to review, and comment upon, the draft settlement agreement that you previously prepared…. I have been practicing matrimonial law for 34 years in Northern Virginia, and I told [our mutual client] that I have never seen a more thorough and professionally-drafted settlement document. I feel compelled to simply inform you of my personal belief that you have constructed a marvelous agreement for both parties; and can rest assured that your name has now been put at the very top of the ‘mediator referral list’ for all four attorneys in this law firm.”
